Madhubani or Mithala Painting is practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India traditionally done by women, with twigs, fingers, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns. Paintings are painted for festivals and occasions such as birth, marriage, holi, surya shasti, kali puja, Upanayanam (sacred thread ceremony), durga puja, and even the symbol of fertility and procreation Kohabar Ghar (a newly wed's chamber on the first night of their wedding).
